Spinal Tap’s back story
In order to secure Spinal Tap’s place in the annals of rock & roll, Reiner stated, “I recently spoke to Marty DiBergi who said that he was more than happy to take a sabbatical from his position as a visiting Professor’s Assistant at the Ed Wood School of Cinematic Arts.”
After its 1984 premiere, This Is Spinal Tap became a cult classic. The comedy was chosen for preservation by the National Film Registry in 2002 after being judged “culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant” by the Library of Congress.
In addition to its A-list cameos, Brooks hinted that the sequel would have a “few other surprises” in a December interview with Billboard. At the time, he added, “If you think you have laughed before, Jiminy Christmas…” I was first and foremost enamored with the first Spinal Tap film. The fact that it is returning makes being a part of this exciting. Because, dude, this is history.
