Blood found on boy’s teddy
Christina Robinson, 30, is charged with killing her son Dwelaniyah at her home in Bracken Court, Ushaw Moor, County Durham, by giving him a severe shaking.
In the weeks leading up to his death, she is charged with hitting him with a bamboo cane, scorching him, and burning his legs and buttocks.
The court was informed that traces of his flesh and blood were discovered on a bamboo cane.
Mrs. Robinson’s to the court
Mrs. Robinson had previously told the court that her son had been hurt by hot water while playing in the shower.
The married defendant, who was born in Tamworth, Staffordshire, disputes both the charge of child abuse and murder.
Testimony
According to her testimony before Newcastle Crown Court, she was justified in reprimanding the little child because of what the Bible says.
As he wrapped up the prosecution’s case, Richard Wright KC read out a number of verified facts, one of which being that Dwelaniyah’s teddy bear had bloodstains on it according to forensic experts.
This is disputed by the prosecution, who maintains that he was intentionally burned. Dwelaniyah’s burns and brain injuries caused her death.
The court heard that his mother self-treated his injuries and did not seek medical attention for the burns. On Tuesday, the defence is scheduled to present testimony.
The trial is still ongoing.
