Sam Altman will return to Open AI, ending the crisis that started on November 17, with his termination by the board of directors.
In addition to Altman’s return, the company agreed in principle to partly reconstitute the board of directors that dismissed him.
“We have reached an agreement in principle for Sam Altman to return to Open AI as CEO with a new initial board of Bret Taylor (Board), Larry Summers and Adam D’Angelo. We are collaborating to figure out the details. Thank you so much for your patience through this”, Open AI wrote on “X”.
Reacting to the changes and development, Sam Altman posted “I love Open AI, and everything I’ve done over the past few days has been in service of keeping this team and its mission together. When I decided to join msft on sun evening, it was clear that was the best path for me and the team. With the new board and w Satya’s support, I’m looking forward to returning to Open AI and building on our strong partnership with msft”.
In the statement on “X”, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella welcomed the change in Open AI’s board.
Greg Brockman, who resigned as Open AI’s president after Altman’s exit, is also coming back to the company.
“Getting back to Open AI & getting back to coding tonight”, said Brockman.
Nearly, more than 700 staff have threatened to resign and move to Microsoft if Altman was not brought back.
This prompted the Open AI to begin a “thorough and intense discussion” to find a solution.
