Indians have topped the number of tourists visiting the Maldives in 2023. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had released a photo and video of his visit to Lakshadweep a few days ago.

A total of 17 lakh 57 thousand 939 foreign tourists visited the Maldives in the year 2023 (till 13 Dec). This is 12.6% more than last year 2022. A maximum of 2 lakh 9,198 Indians have come to Maldives. Next are people from Russia (2,09,146) and China (1,87,118).
Britain (1,55,730), Germany (1,35,090), Italy (1,18,412), USA (74,575), France (49,199), Spain (40,462) and Switzerland (37,260) are the next countries. It says so. Statistics from the aviation sector also show that Maldives has become the most popular tourist destination for Indians over the past few years.
In the quarter from October to December 2018, 51 thousand people traveled between India and Maldives through direct air service. This increased to 60 thousand during the same period in the following year. In 2020, 32 thousand people traveled despite the corona virus. In 2021, it increased to 1.15 lakh. But in 2022, it decreased significantly.
