The Central Department of Communications has advised people to be alert about fraudulent calls to mobile phones that redirect calls to an unknown person.
People who contact the customer service representative or technical staff of telecom service providers say that there is a problem with the SIM card or the telecom of the concerned customer.
To fix this problem they ask you to dial the mobile number they say followed by ‘*401#’.
By doing this the calls to the customer are diverted to an unknown mobile number. Using this, uncles engage in fraudulent activities.
In this case, the Central Department of Communications has advised people to be aware of such fraudulent calls.
In a notification issued by the central government in this regard, ‘No telecommunication service providers will contact their customers and ask them to dial the number ‘*401#’.
If the incoming calls are diverted to another mobile number by dialing in this way, the call forwarding facility in the mobile phone system should be deactivated immediately.
Government tips to stay away:
Avoid Dialing Codes or Sending SMS: Never dial codes or respond to text messages sent by unknown sources. Scammers often use these methods to activate call forwarding.
Enhance Phone Security: Use passcodes or biometric authentication methods to secure your smartphone, preventing unauthorized access to your device.
Guard Against Sharing Sensitive Information: Never share sensitive information, such as OTPs, with random callers claiming to be from your ISP or mobile network provider. Verify their identity before sharing any data.
As scams become increasingly sophisticated, it’s crucial for smartphone users to remain vigilant and adopt these protective measures to thwart call forwarding scams and safeguard their personal and financial information. Stay informed and cautious to prevent falling victim to these deceptive tactics employed by cybercriminals.
