A teaser video for Selena Gomez’s new song, “Love On,” has been released. It features lots of PDA, but not for her. One day before the song’s release, on Wednesday, February 21, the singer/actress could be seen in the trailer on Instagram, standing at the top of a staircase with a cute puppy in her arms and seemed unfazed. She gently overlooks numerous couples getting hot and heavy on the steps below her in the meantime.
“Love On,” which debuted with a dreamy chord progression and hazy spoken French samples, is described in the press release as a feel-good song that was “inspired by all the time Selena spent in Paris last year.” The song’s melody adopts the disco revival style used by Miley Cyrus and Dua Lipa, two of Gomez’s contemporaries. Vocal hooks are positioned over a steady beat that is accentuated by a funky bassline.
Along with the song comes a music video directed by Frenchman Greg Ohrel, which shows Gomez enjoying a romantic and carefree moment in a stunning seaside environment. Gomez dons a few quirky clothes and dances with a group of ballerinas as lovers embrace all around.
She continued, “The theme generally is freedom – freedom from relationships, freedom from the darkness.”
Selena’s Single
“Love On” is Gomez’s first release since “Single Soon,” a song that Cashmere Cat and Benny Blanco created last year. She stated that she was “not quite done with SG3” when that song was released in August, so it’s unclear when further new music will be released. According to the “Love On” press release, the new song is being worked on “as she continues to work in the studio” to follow up her 2020 album, Rare.
About the Single
The fun pop song is Gomez’s first release following her revelation at the end of the previous year about her collaboration with producer Benny Blanco, who created “Single Soon.” Grammy-winning trio The Monsters & Strangerz created the song. They are also responsible for previous Gomez hits like “My Mind & Me,” “Vulnerable,” and “Forget Forever.” In the song “Love On,” Gomez assures her partner that they will have a great time. She taunts, “Wait ’til I turn my love on / You’ll get your thrill.” “If you can’t tell, baby, you’re my favorite person to love.”
