Google Pay is one of the most popular online payment (UPI) apps in the world. In this case, Google has issued an important announcement for Google Pay users.
Google Pay warns users about the risks of using screen sharing apps while making transactions. These apps allow others to see and control the user’s device, potentially leading to fraudulent activities such as making transactions on their behalf, accessing card details, and using OTPs to transfer money. Google Pay advises users to close all screen sharing apps before using their payment service and never download third-party apps instructed by anyone posing as a Google Pay representative.
The Google Pay app uses Google’s best artificial intelligence and fraud prevention technology to detect suspicious transactions. Google has also said that it is taking all measures to carry out transactions with additional security.
In this case, the Google Pay app has advised not to use certain apps for safe transactions.
While doing Google Pay active transactions on any device be it mobile phone, computer, laptop, it has been asked to avoid all screen-sharing apps. It will take complete control of your device. Warning that your debit card and bank account information will be taken.
So while using the Google Pay application, it has been asked not to use screen sharing applications including Screen Share, AnyDesk, and TeamViewer and to ensure that those applications are not in use.
It has also said that there will be no warning notification in Google apps if you download or use such screen-sharing apps.
Why users should not use screen sharing apps with Google Pay
The reason Google Pay users should not be using screen sharing apps is that fraudsters can use these apps:
* To control your phone to make transactions on your behalf.
* To view your ATM or debit card details.
* To view the OTP sent to your phone and use it to transfer money from your account.
Google warns users to note that Google Pay never asks them to download or install a third-party app for any reason.
