Angela Bassett talks about her incredible experiences and recollections of working with the late Chadwick Boseman. She especially remembers their final day of filming for the first Black Panther movie. A passionate hug sealed the scene and symbolised the two performers’ strong bond and regard for one another.
About Angela Bassett
The mother of Boseman’s T’Challa, Queen Ramonda, is represented by Bassett. She looks back on the lovely, full-circle journey that the two of them had, from their initial meeting at Howard University to their working together on a project that has become a cultural landmark.
“We were at Warrior Falls near the falls on my last day of shooting. When I turned in my assignment, Chadwick walked over and gave me a hug. And I simply gave him a hug and an embrace,” remembers Bassett. “And of course it was a glorious set filled with splendid beauty and people and music and pride.”
Accepting the Legacy
Following the untimely death of actor Boseman in August 2020, Bassett has advocated for paying tribute to his legacy, especially with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s new storyline. Originally slated to examine a father-son narrative, the movie evolved into an homage to Boseman’s persona and the lasting impact he had on the series and its audience. Speaking movingly about the process of grieving, getting over Boseman’s loss, and honoring his light and spirit at the January 2023 Golden Globe Awards, Bassett emphasized the happiness and solidarity that the Black Panther series stands for.
Bassett portrayed Queen Ramonda, the mother of Boseman’s character, T’Challa, aka Black Panther, in Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. In2023, Bassett was nominated for a second Oscar in recognition of her portrayal of a heartbroken queen.

Outside of the camera, Angela Bassett is a loving mother who manages the challenges of juggling her hard work and her family.
