The mini player auction for IPL 2024 were held in Dubai on Tuesday. In this auction, Aussie player Mitchell Starc was auctioned for Rs 24.75 crore, the highest ever bid in IPL history. In this year’s auction, the bidding round for the unfamiliar players was more interesting than the other rounds. Some of the players who made their debut at a price of Rs 20 lakhs were competing with the leading teams and showed interest in buying crores.
Robin Minz was one of those bought. The 21-year-old was bought by Gujarat Titans for Rs 3.6 crore.
First Tribal Cricketer In IPL:
Teams were eager to buy Robin when he was launched at a base price of Rs 20 lakh. Teams such as Mumbai Indians, Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals, and Kolkata Knight Riders have spent crores to compete. Ultimately Gujarat Titans bought him for Rs. 3.6 crores. Robin Minz became the first tribal cricketer in the history of IPL to play in this series rather than being auctioned for this price. Hailing from Kumla District, Jharkhand, he currently resides in the Namkum area of Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand.
His father is a retired soldier. Currently working as a security guard at Ranchi Airport. Left-arm wicketkeeper-batsman Robin Minz, though born in Jharkhand, has never played a single match for the Jharkhand senior team. Although he has not represented the state in the Ranji Trophy yet, he has been part of Jharkhand’s U19 and U25 teams.
Uncapped Cricketer:
He is a big fan of Dhoni. MS Dhoni’s childhood coach Sanjal Bhattacharya is also coaching Robin. Earlier this year, Robin was spotted by Mumbai Indians while playing in the U19s recognized his talent and gave him special training in England.
Robin, who played five matches for Jharkhand U19 and scored three centuries, also played in the Colonel CK Naidu Trophy last year. Also this season, Syed Mushtaq was featured in the Ali Trophy squad. However, he unfortunately could not due to typhoid fever. But it was his unbeaten 73 off 35 balls in a T20 match in Odisha earlier this year that caught everyone’s attention.
