The Lok Sabha Secretariat issued a circular on Tuesday, that expects the suspended MPs to not enter the chamber, lobby and galleries of the parliament. “They cannot enter the chamber, lobby and galleries. They stand suspended from sittings of the parliamentary committees of which they may be a member,” stated the circular. It even claims that the suspended MPs are not entitled to daily allowance until their suspension ends.
Today, ninety-five MPs from Lok Sabha and forty-six MPs from Rajya Sabha were suspended from the Parliament’s Winter Session. Forty-six MPs from Lok Sabha, including Congress leader Pramod Tiwari, Jairam Ramesh, Naranbhai J. Rathwa, TMC leader Sukhendu Roy, Derek O’ Brien, Dola Sen, DMK leader S. Kalyansundaram, J. Shanmugam and others were suspended.
And, ninety-five Lok Sabha MPs, including Congress leaders Shashi Tharoor, Manish Tewari, Karti Chidambaram, NC leader Farooq Abdullah, Supriya Sule, Sajad Ahmed and others were suspended for their misconduct and disruption during yesterday’s proceedings.
Moreover, the centre is looking forward to pushing some key bills in the Lok Sabha as the suspension of MPs continues in the parliament.
The Protest against the Centre continues:
Initially, after the suspension of 141 MPs from both houses, the opposition started a ‘Silent protest’. The opposition MPs continued the protest in front of Gandhi’s statue located on the premises of the parliament with the play cards, that included written slogans.
Following this, the Congress Party’s senior leader MP Mallikarjun Kharge claimed that the PM wants to establish a “Single Part Rule” in the country. That’s why so many MPs are getting suspended.
“The PM wants to establish a “Single Party Rule” in the country,” he posted in the X.
Instead of punishing people of high ranks for the shameful security lapse, they could have snatched away their democratic rights, added Kharge in his post.
Why opposition calls it “Namocracy in all its tyranny”?
With the mass suspension of 141 MPs, the Congress along with other opposition leaders calls it “Namocracy in all its tyranny” because they see it as a system where the power is concentrated in the hands of Modi and his Bhartiya Janta Party.
Congress Leader Jairam Ramesh, who was suspended on Monday said, “complete purge is being executed so that Draconian Bills are passed without any meaningful debate”.
He stated that the two intruders who entered the parliament on December 13 are moving scot-free, meanwhile the reputed House members are getting executed.
However, the suspension went on as the misconduct and disruption were continuously created by the MPs from both the houses.
Amid suspension and protest, govt to push Key bills:
As the suspension of MPs continues, the BJP government looks forward to pushing three important Criminal law bills and the CEC bill in the Lok Sabha today.
The Criminal law bills seek to replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Criminal Procedure Code, and the Indian Evidence Act along with the Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita and Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita. Apart from these drafts, the Lok Sabha will also pass the Chief Election Commissioner, Telecom Bill 2023 and other significant bills.
Trajectory to MPs’ suspension from Parliament:
Looking into the current situation, if the suspension continues like this, the situation might get uncontrolled and raise concerns regarding the decorum of the parliament.
A fair and possible result may come out if the suspended MPs get revocation in the parliament to resume normal parliamentary proceedings, or both sides try to compromise such as reducing the time of suspension may be the solution to control the situation inside and outside of the House.
