The Union Ministry of Youth Welfare and Sports announced the National Sports Awards 2023 on 20 December in a Press Release. Accordingly, Badminton players Shirak Shetty and Chadwick Sai Raj Ranki Reddy have been selected for the Major Dayan Chand Khel Ratna Award. Chirac and Chadwick won men’s doubles gold at the Asian Games. He also won a bronze medal at the World Championships and a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games.
26 people including Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami and chess player R. Vaishali have been selected for the Arjuna Award. The 33-year-old Mohammad Shami topped the list of highest wicket takers in the ICC World Cup series that ended last month with 24 wickets.
R. Vaishali from Tamil Nadu had recently won the title of Grand Master. She is the sister of Indian Grand Master Pragnananda. RB Ramesh from Tamil Nadu has been selected for the Dronacharya Award.
