The Uttar Pradesh government has declared November 25, 2023, as a “No Non-Veg” day to honor Sadhu TL Vaswani on his birth anniversary.
Who was Sadhu Vaswani?
Sadhu TL, an educationalist who started the Mira movement was born on November 25, 1879. He belonged to a Sindhi family in Hyderabad, Sindh (now in Pakistan). He was the one, who raised his voice for education and the liberation of women in the country.
His humble and eco-friendly lifestyle centered around a vegetarian diet, has served as a source of inspiration for countless individuals.
Sadhu Vaswani, a renowned leader and humanitarian, died on January 16, 1966, after living a long and fulfilling life of 86 years. His legacy of compassion, kindness, and self-service continues to inspire millions of people worldwide. To honor his teaching and philosophy of non-violence and compassion towards all living beings, a museum was established in Pune, India, which has numerous documents related to his life and work. In addition, on his birthday, people around the world observe International Meatless Day, which promotes a vegetarian diet
“It is to inform you that the birth anniversary of our country’s great men who propounded the Doctrine of non-violence is celebrated as “Non-Violence” days. As we celebrate Mahavir Jayanti, Buddha Jayanti, Gandhi Jayanti and Sadhu TL Jayanti, the U.P government has been issuing notifications all across the state”, the official from U.P government said.
The notification was issued by the state government that all the slaughterhouses and meat shops will remain closed on Saturday.
Furthermore, the government has informed the authorities to make sure that the order is followed strictly across the state.
