In the city of Bologna in northern Italy, two very large towers stand side by side. These two towers have featured prominently in many history books, children’s songs and travelogues around the world.
The tallest of these historic Buildings is the “Asinelli”; “Garisenda” (Garisenda) is shorter in height. AD From 1109 A.D. Built in the year 1119, these two tall towers are named after the families who built them.
The smallest tower of this is the Karicenda, which is 157 feet tall. The building, which was taller than this (about 200 feet), was in danger of collapsing in the 14th century, and has reached its present height due to the construction work done to prevent it.
In this case, the report of the construction experts indicates that the Karishenda, which is currently tilted at 4 degrees, has reached the risk of collapse due to the increasing tilting. This was confirmed by a city spokesperson.
A team of scientific experts, who have been researching the stability of the Karishenda tower since 2019, had earlier warned of the risk of its collapse.
According to the precision sensor recordings taken last, the team said that unprecedented pressure is being applied to its floor, and due to this, the cracks that have appeared in the stones used in the foundation are slowly spreading to the bricks above.
Following this information, the municipality has decided to prohibit the movement of people by erecting a high metal barricade around the Garisenda Tower for security purposes. With this, it is believed that even if the Caricenda falls suddenly, the damage to the neighboring buildings will be minimal.
The city administration has closed all road traffic connecting the two towers.
However, no time frame has yet been given by experts as to the day or month when the building will come down. Experts have only warned that the tower is at risk of collapsing in anywhere from 3 months to 10 years.
The news , which has been a historical symbol and an art form that attracts tourists for about 1000 years, will soon collapse has left the people of the city sad.
