New Delhi: The Supreme Court’s recent condemnation of Patanjali Ayurved for its advertisements against modern medicine is a reminder of the importance of responsible advertising. Companies mustn’t undermine the credibility of established medical practices in their pursuit of profit. The court’s ruling sends a strong message that such behavior will not be tolerated and serves as a warning to other companies engaging in similar practices.
The Honorable Supreme Court has issued a notice to Baba Ramdev‘s company in response to a plea filed by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) regarding a “false and malicious” advertisement promoting allopathy.
“This is a blatant infraction of law what you’re doing. We will take it very seriously if you keep doing this and even impose a cost of ₨ 1 crore on every product” said Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah.
In response to Patanjali’s misleading advertisements against doctors and modern medicine, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has filed a petition seeking control over the situation. The bench has taken note of this petition and is closely observing the matter.
During the hearing, the court stated that it did not want any further discussion regarding the practice of allopathy. However, the court assured that it would soon find a solution to the problem. The Union Government was given the responsibility to come up with a solution to tackle the issue at hand. The court has listed the matter for the next hearing in February 2024.
