Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Surat Diamond Bourse building in the state of Gujarat on 17 Dec. Now This is the largest workspace building in the world, surpassing the United States military headquarters.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday inaugurated the new integrated terminal building at the airport in Surat, Gujarat. It can handle 600 international passengers and 1,200 domestic passengers during peak hours. It has a capacity to handle 55 lakh passengers per annum.
Surat Diamond Bourse:
Subsequently, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB), the world’s largest office building. Located in Khajot village near Surat city, the building has an area of 67 lakh sq. ft. Equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, the building will serve as an international trading hub for rough and polished diamonds and jewelry. This makes it the largest office building in the world, surpassing the US military headquarters. Inaugurating the building, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said:
It will symbolize the new strength and new determination of the new India. People of Surat got 2 more gifts. One is the new terminal for Surat Airport. Secondly, it has got international airport status.
Diamond City ‘Surat’
Considering the economic development of our country, the central government has set the target for the next 25 years. Whether it is a $5 trillion economy or a $10 trillion economy, the government is working towards that goal. I am confident that India will be among the top three economies in the world during my third term.
Prime Minister said “Surat is one of the top 10 developing cities in the world. Surat’s street food, skill development work, everything is amazing. Surat was once known as the ‘Sun City’. But today the people here have made it a ‘Diamond City’ with their hard work”.
Special Features of Diamond Bourse Building:
The Surat Diamond Bourse Building will house a customs department office for export and import, a retail jewelry mall, international bank branches, and a safe deposit box facility.
The offices in this building are SDB. Management makes allotments through an auction. According to SDB, various leading diamond dealers who are already operating with headquarters in Mumbai have bought offices in this new building at auction. Media Coordinator Dinesh Navadia said. The building is part of the Diamond Research and Commercial (Dream) City.
In February 2015, Anandiben Patel, who was then the Chief Minister of Gujarat, laid the foundation stone for this building. 67 lakh square feet of SDB. It is currently the world’s largest office building with 4,500 diamond trading offices. Built on an area of 35.54 acres, this mega structure bill has offices ranging from 300 sq ft to 1 lakh sq ft. It has nine towers with 15 stories.
