Prime Minister Modi is to inaugurate the Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) officially on Sunday. As we all know, Surat city is famous for its trading links, as is the diamond bourse for its infrastructure.
According to the source, the Surat Diamond Bourse will be the world’s largest office building, surpassing the U. S’s Pentagon. To this, PM Modi responded to a media report on X.
“Surat Diamond Bourse showcases the dynamism and growth of Surat’s Diamond industry. It is also a testament to India’s entrepreneurial spirit. It will serve as a hub for trade, innovation and collaboration, further boosting our economy and creating employment opportunities,” retweeted PM Modi.
About Surat Diamond Bourse:
The SDB is a non-profit organization that aims to become India’s second-largest diamond trading hub, offering different diamond activities under one roof.
It’s the world’s largest office building that occupy an area of 35.54 acres with 67 lakh sq. ft. Accommodating the cutting, polishing and trading of diamond together under one roof will enhance the trading of diamond and boosts the economy.
What are the Features and Objectives of SDB?
The SDB comprises nine towers, each has 15 floors, consisting of 4,200 offices to cater to various diamond activities from small to large traders and businesses.
The complex consists of modern facilities like, a tech-based security system, ample amount of space for parking, business centers and relaxing areas. Along with this, it is associated with sustainable practices of energy-sufficient lighting, ventilation, rainwater harvesting and so much more.
The President of the World Federation of Diamond Bourse, Eli Izhakoff complimented India’s new leading Surat Diamond Bourse.
“Surat is a major cutting centre and a diamond exchange is long overdue. Dealers from all over the world can do business from a secured and centralized place with confidence,” she said.
Moreover, the SDB’s objectives are to promote, export and develop trade and commerce related to Gems and jewellery in India, including cutting, polishing and processing. It aims to make India a modern and sophisticated Diamond, gem and jewellery hub in the world.
