On Monday, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief Mayawati urged the Uttar Pradesh government to shift her party’s office to a safe place for certain ‘safety’ reasons to prevent the vulnerable incident, that might happen anytime or anywhere.
Besides, she further stated the problems that the party is facing amid the security concerns, and location, cited being hopeful for the solution to be taken by the state government.
Safety Reasons behind Shifting Party’s office
Taking over to the X, the BSP Chief posted about the party’s special request to the state government on security and anti-Dalit. She said, “The BSP makes a special request to the UP government to make arrangements at a safe place elsewhere instead of the current party state office…Besides, the party also demands that the government deal strictly with the anti-Dalit elements”.
She claimed that the construction of “high bridges” near the BSP office in Lucknow poses a security threat as it would allow the “conspiratorial anarchist” elements to harm the party, its employees and herself. “Building a high bridge near the BSP state office is also done from where the conspiratorial anarchist elements…Due to this, the party has to remove the status of great men and place them at the chief’s residence,” she said.
She further stated regarding the party’s meeting, which is now conducted at her residence while the big and important meetings that need to be done at the office, require additional force deployment around the bridges. Moreover, the BSP chief stated about the guest house incident that took place in 1995, when the Samajwadi Party (SP) workers had attacked Mayawati at the guest’s house in Lucknow after she stepped backwards from her support to the Mulayam Singh Yadav-led government. Besides this, in a post on the X, Mayawati accused Akhilesh Yadav and his Samajwadi Party of their growing rants on “anti-Dalit” and other related issues, which is creating security concerns.
Why did Mayawati accuse Yadav’s Party on “anti-Dalit”?
In 2019, the BSP and SP were allies for the parliamentary elections, but they immediately parted away after the election was over. The BSP chief accused the SP of not only being an “anti-Castes” element but also an “anti-Dalit” party. Mayawati claimed that she had tried to change the party’s “anti-Dalit” perception after the alliance but Akhilesh Yadav’s entry into the party couldn’t make it possible.
Further, she criticized the various anti-Dalit decisions, that were taken by the SP govt back in 2012-17 under Akhilesh Yadav-led government. This decision generated much heat towards the party and its leaders.
Possible Outcomes
If the UP govt agrees to Mayawati’s request, then they might find a new office location with proper security measures for the BSP and its members. Also, there’s a possibility of delay in making the decision, or the government might provide a minor concession like security patrols near the office location.
Ultimately, the specific outcome depends on several factors including the government’s political calculus, security and the pressure from the BSP, which will decide the further decision to be taken by the government.
