In the 2023 World Fisheries Conference, the Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced the ‘GHOL’ fish as the state fish of the Gujarat government.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the Global Fisheries Conference 2023 at Hepatpur in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
Inaugurating the conference, he said, “Gujarat has become a better state under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We have developed economic policies that will benefit both the fishermen and the fisheries sector of the state.
Today is a very happy day for the state. Today we declare ‘GHOL’ fish as the state fish. Ghol fish is one of the most expensive fish Ghol fish species exported by Gujarat. Declaring it as a state fish will create awareness about it.” He said that.
The two-day Global Fisheries Conference 2023 was held in Ahmedabad yesterday (Nov. 21) with the objectives of creating synergy between various domestic and global fisheries producers, fostering joint ventures and promoting the Indian fisheries sector.
He further said, “The state of Gujarat has the longest coastline of 1,600 kilometers in the country. Gujarat is the largest producer of marine fish in India. Exports fish worth more than 5000 crore rupees. It contributes 17 percent to the total fish exports of the country. Gujarat is the most suitable state to host the first World Fisheries Conference. Blue economy plays an important role in building domestic and international trade. More than three crore people in our country are associated with this sector. But such an important sector did not even have a separate ministry before 2014.
It was only after Modi became the Prime Minister that the Ministry of Fisheries was started for the first time in the country and an allocation of Rs 75,000 crore was made for it. Due to this, domestic fish production has doubled in the last nine years,” Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said.
