Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Commerce, Industry and Food and Consumer Affairs, urged that the Food Corporation of India (FCI) should act in a way that earns the trust of farmers and the public through corruption-free management using the best technologies.
The 60th Foundation Day of FCI, the main food grain procurement body on behalf of the Central Government, was held on Sunday. In which Piyush Goyal said: My compliments to FCI for buying from the farmers at the right price for the velan produce. Also, my appreciation for providing food grains to 81 crore people of the country under the Public Distribution Scheme.
At the same time the employees of the corporation should focus on 3 objectives. In that way, first of all, the farmers and the poor need to gain the trust of the people. It requires transparency in procurement, storage and distribution of food grains.
Secondly, better technologies should be used to increase administrative efficiency. Thirdly, administrative costs should be reduced and better service should be provided.
He said that the employees should come forward to identify the mistakes and take action to make FCI a world class organization.
