A youth who killed his wife and daughter after being bitten by a snake in Odisha’s Ganjam district has been arrested today by the police. The accused was arrested a month after the incident due to delay in gathering evidence.
Ganesh Patra (age 25) hails from Adikhan village in the Kapisurya Nagar area. His wife is Basanti Patra (age 23).
They got married in 2020. They had a daughter Debasmita (age 2). There are frequent fights between husband and wife.
In this case, Ganesh Patra met a snake charmer and bought a highly venomous cobra saying that he wanted a snake for puja.
On October 9, he brought a cobra in a plastic jar and left it in the room where his wife and daughter were sleeping. He is sleeping in another room. The next morning both the wife and daughter were found dead from snake bites.
The police, who came to know about the incident, initially registered a case of unnatural death. But his father-in-law reported to Ganjam Superintendent of Police Jagmohan Meena that Ganesh Patra was involved in the deaths of the two.
The police then started an investigation. However, due to a delay in gathering evidence, the police arrested the accused a month after the incident.
During the trial, he initially denied the crime. He also said that the snake might have entered the room by itself. Later during interrogation, Kidukipidi confessed to the crime to the police. This is not the first case in which the offender uses the snake to execute his plan. on 13 October 2021, Sooraj S. Kumar was found guilty of killing his wife by forcing a live cobra to bite her. In Kollam sessions court, Judge M. Manoj sentenced him to 17 years imprisonment plus double life imprisonment and a monetary penalty of 5 lakh (500,000) rupees. This case is mentioned as the rarest of rare case by the court. Will this type of incident lead ideas to the criminal?…….
