The 69th Filmfare Awards took place over the weekend to officially launch Bollywood’s award season.
This year’s Gujarat-based award ceremony saw famous duo Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor take home the top acting prizes. While her husband Ranbir Kapoor won Best Actor for his outstanding performance in Animal, Alia Bhatt won Best Actress for her acting in Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani.
With six awards overall, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal led the field, while Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 12th Fail took home some of the greatest honors of the evening, including Best Director and Best Picture.
Vikrant Massey took home the Best Actor prize in the Critics category for 12th Fail.
In the meantime, Shefali Shah and Rani Mukherji shared the Best Actress (Critics) honors for Three of Us and Mrs. Chatterjee Vs. Norway, respectively.
Apart from this, ‘Animal’ also won the Best Music Album award and nonetheless singer Bhupinder Babbal won the Best Playback Singer (Male) award for his song ‘Arjan Vailly’ from the film ‘Animal’, Manan Bhardwaj composed the song, which was sung and written by Babbal. The film has been nominated in 19 categories.

Vicky Kaushal received Best Supporting Actor for his powerful performance in Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki. Kaushal was also nominated for Best Actor (Critics) for his work in Sam Bahadur. The Lifetime Achievement Award was granted to filmmaker David Dhawan. The actor Aditya Rawal from Faraaz took home the Best Debut (Male) trophy. Alizeh Agnihotri, a farrey actress, took up the Best Debut (Female) trophy.
Fans disappointed for not giving SRK any award
Fans of Shah Rukh Khan, meanwhile, are upset and have expressed their displeasure with Ranbir Kapoor’s victory, criticizing the actor as undeserving. With his successful films Jawan and Pathaan, Shah Rukh Khan proved to be the original box office king and was unquestionably a revelation on Jawan. This year’s competition was intense since Shah Rukh Khan was up against talented performers like Vicky Kaushal from Sam Bahadur and Vikrant Massey from 12th Fail.
