Kalki 2898 AD production, plot, and cast
Film director Nag Ashwin stated, “Kalki 2898 A.D.” embarks on a journey spanning millennia, from the epic events of the Mahabharata in the year 3102 BCE to the distant year 2898 AD.”
He added that the core narrative of the film revolves around the enigmatic figure of Kalki, the tenth and final reincarnation of the Hindu god Lord Vishnu. According to ancient Hindu texts, Kalki is prophesied as the harbinger of the cataclysm at the end of “Kali Yuga” that will destroy the present world and start the cycle of life back from scratch, ushering the world into a new “Satya Yuga,” or the age of truth.
The film is produced by Nag Ashwin’s father-in-law, C. Aswani Dutt, who is the production head of Telegu Film Production Company, Vyjayanthi Movies. Boasting an impressive budget of ₹600 crore INR and a star-studded cast as well, the film marks 50 years since the establishment of the studio, Vyjayanthi Movies.
The main cast includes Hindi film actress Deepika Padukone, Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, and Disha Patani. Actor Dulquer Salmaan has also reportedly visited the set of “Kalki 2898 AD” but has neither confirmed nor denied his role in the upcoming sci-fi production.
Notably, for the futuristic vehicles and high-end equipment required for the film, director Nag Ashwin collaborated with Indian automobile giant Mahindra and Mahindra back in March 2022.
The company’s engineers at the Mahindra Research Valley campus in Chennai assisted the production team in developing the futuristic vehicles and technology required for the movie. Ashwin has stated that computer-generated imagery is easy to create, but he wants the film to have an “authentic and genuine” feel to it.
