About ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ movie
Laal Singh Chaddha is a Hindi-language comedy-drama directed by Advait Chandan, is an adaption of the 1994 American film ‘Forrest Gump’, and was released in 2022. The film featured Amir Khan as the lead, alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan, Mona Singh and Naga Chaitanya. However, the film did not perform that well and faced backlash, for which it was released on Netflix just some weeks after its theatrical release.
Backlash on Laal Singh Chaddha
The backlash against the film was particularly strong on social media platforms, with many being disappointed with the story and calling for a boycott of the film. Along with this, the film’s portrayal of Sikhs was also criticized by some members of the Sikh community, who felt it offensive and inaccurate.
However, the boycott trend began after Amir Khan’s 2015 interview when then his wife Kiran Rao suggested that they move out of India due to ‘growing intolerance’, which sparked backlash against Khan and accused him of being anti-national.
