Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios revealed on Wednesday that the comedian, who for 16 years hosted the Comedy Central program and made it a major force in entertainment and culture, will be back to headline the show every Monday starting on February 12.
After Trevor Noah abruptly left Comedy Central at the end of 2022, Comedy Central has been under intense criticism for the past year as it tried out a number of potential hosts, including Leslie Jones, Kal Penn, and Sarah Silverman. Now finally after so many struggles The Paramount Global network revealed that Jon Stewart, who ruled over the most prosperous period of the late-night fixture, will serve as host and program director on Monday evenings for the 2024 election cycle, Variety reported. This announcement followed months of searching for a replacement host. He is expected to start working on “Daily” on February 12 and hold an overseeing position that might extend until 2025.
Chris McCarthy, the CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios, said in a statement, “Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honored to have him return to Comedy Central’s ‘The Daily Show’ to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter the election season.”
Stewart’s parting way with the show
Following his departure from “The Daily Show” in 2015, Stewart agreed to host a program for Apple’s newly launched streaming service. However, that program abruptly ended a year ago. At the time, Stewart expressed his frustration to the team about the Silicon Valley giant’s desire to have influence over the show’s guest roster and topic matter.
Stewart’s comeback to the legendary program is guaranteed to create a lot of enthusiasm and provide much-needed momentum as it has recently battled to find its feet.
Several comedians, including Samantha Bee, Steve Carell, and John Oliver, got their start in show business thanks to Stewart’s time on “Daily”. (ANI)
