The Ministry of Development of the North-East Region (DoNER) will organize the “Uttar Purvi Mahotsav 2024” at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi, from January 13 to January 17, 2024. The Mahotsav will comprise conductive programs and will showcase the rich diversity and cultural heritage of North-East India.
While addressing the media, the Secretary of DoNER Chanchal Kumar said, “The Mahotsav has been properly curated to showcase the rich diversity, which involves traditional arts, crafts, and cultures under one roof”.
He further stated that the Uttar Purvi Mahotsav is more than just a celebration. It aims to provide platforms for economic opportunities, handlooms and textiles, agro products, and handicrafts for the region’s growth and development.
Key Highlights of the Mahotsav
The Handicrafts, Handlooms and Agro Products will serve as a platform to showcase the unique aspects of the Northeast region, which aims to present the best of Northeast India like indigenous and organic fruits, handcrafted products, and relevant things of Northeast India. Also, there will be a buyer-seller meeting that will provide an important platform for buyer-sellers to foster valuable interactions across various sectors. Moreover, it lets the participants explore, establish, connect and collaborate with the business opportunities for economic growth. For which, an Open Network Digital Commerce Partnership (ONDC) will help small businesses unleash digital power.
Showcasing cultural heritage that includes enchanting shows of traditional dance performances like Satriya, Hojagiri, Dynamic Lion dance, Tangthal Fight, and performances on the soulful music of the northeastern states of India. In addition, a Panel discussion will be held on “Catalyzing North East India Progress Towards a Vikshit Bharat”, “Women Leaders in Northeast” and “Northeast in Action” for youth, workforce and tapestry of India, which aims to provide insights into how this demographic can significantly shape the country.
Significance of the Event
Celebrating the unique culture and heritage of the Northeast, the Mahotsav reinforces the message of India’s unity in diversity. It highlights the strength that comes from embracing different traditions and cultures that foster national pride.
Besides, the festival also breaks the stereotypes and misconceptions about the Northeast. By providing this platform, the people of this region will be able to share their stories and experiences to counter the negative narratives and promote a positive image of Northeast India.

Inauguration and foundation of Mahotsav
The foundation stone of the North East Convention Centre will be laid in New Delhi. This convention centre will be built to meet international standards and will serve as a cultural and informational hub of North East India in Delhi. Overall, the inauguration ceremony will set the stage for a vibrant and successful five-day Mahotsav celebration.
