After Bhajan Lal Sharma took oath as the Chief Minister of Rajasthan with two Deputy CMs, the party is struggling to appoint the cabinet ministers. Following the 24-day delay, the governor Kalraj Mishra heading to Jodhpur for the discussion over the cabinet formation, which is likely to be held on Friday or Saturday of this week.
On the delay, the senior BJP said, “Every time we see newspapers and people on social media making fun of the delay, it is not a good sign”.
He further stated that the delay became the point of discussion across the state and could harm the image of newly elected Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma.
The Delay in the Formation of Cabinet in Rajasthan
Rajasthan is a diverse state, and ensuring the distribution of ministerial positions fairly across the region is a tough task, along with maintaining the internal and external balance. One has to balance factionalism, caste representation, political climate and negotiation with the allies. Moreover, the BJP might conduct thorough vetting to avoid appointing someone who could later become liable. Also, there might be some legal procedure that is required to finalize the candidate, which may be the reason behind the delay.
The BJP leaders of the state have started raising their concerns over the delay, as they fear the party might face severe problems related to this.
Implications on the Administration
The delay in the cabinet formation in Rajasthan casts a long shadow on the underdeveloped administration. Governance stumbles as public frustration mounts, lagging in making decisions and lack of leaders for the designated departments. Meanwhile, the public’s trust is eradicating and creating doubts about the party’s potential for electoral prospects. Until the cabinet’s situation stabilizes, the BJP will stay on the verge of losing power and the public’s faith.
What are the reactions of the opposition?
The opposition leaders are painting the BJP as indecisive, slow and unprepared for the governance. They are arguing and raising questions over the leadership skills of the Chief Minister and the party’s overall performance.
The Congress leader Ashok Gehlot has slammed the BJP for the “stalemate” and accused them of prioritising internal politics over the public’s well-being.
“Disappointment has now started being spread among the public because…But even after 22 days, the cabinet has not been formed, due to which governance has come to a standstill,” posted Gehlot on X.
The Indian National Congress (INC) has launched a social media campaign criticizing the BJP’s “indecisiveness” act over the delay in the cabinet formation. Also, other opposition parties are using the delay to promote their vision for Rajasthan and highlight their promises of efficient governance for the state’s better future.
The future of the state, if the delay is not solved soon
A prolonged cabinet vacuum in Rajasthan risks plunging the state into a hazardous situation. The policy will paralyze, frustration boils, the BJP will lose the public’s faith and much more could happen. So, unless any changes in the delay, Rajasthan’s future might be under resentment and political instability.
