On Monday, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav the oath-taking ceremony of 28 ministers, with 18 MLAs to expand his cabinet. Along with the Chief Minister and two Deputy Chief Ministers, the total strength of the cabinet has reached to 31.
Ministers taken into CM’s Cabinet:
For Cabinet Minister: Rakesh Singh (BJP leader and former Minister), Rao Uday Pratap Singh (politician and member of the royal family of Gwalior), Nagar Singh Chauhan (Tribal Leader), Inder Singh Parmar (farmer Leader and agriculture advocate), Nirmala Bhuria (politician and women’s right activist), Pradyuman Singh Tomar (experienced administrator and former bureaucrat), Narayan S. Kushwaha (OBC leader) and six others are added to the cabinet.
For Ministers of State: Radha Singh (women’s rights activist and politician), Dilip Ahirwar (Dalit leader and advocate of marginalized communities), Pratima Bagri (Young leader working for the education sector), Narendra S. Patel (social worker and youth leader).
Along with this, six other ministers Krishna Gaur, Dilip Jaiswal, Gautam Tetwal, Dharmendra Lodhi, Lakhan Patel and Narayan Panwar took oath as the minister of state (independent charge).
Know the Process of Selecting Ministers for Cabinet:
The politician consideration taken by the cabinet minister with the majority in the state legislature is based on factors like loyalty, political experiences, skills, and regional and social representation that help to build trust and strengthen the government’s legitimacy.
Then, the consultation and approval were taken from the party leaders and legislation to ensure that the chosen candidates were acceptable.
Once the list is finalized, the Chief Minister submits it to the governor and appoints the ministers under the constitutional provisions.
Reason Behind Mohan Yadav Expanding the Cabinet:
To cut down the anti-incumbency, the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh has been in power for several years. So, they decided to bring new faces by expanding the cabinet will refresh the government’s image and lower the anti-incumbency ahead of the 2024 elections.
Attracting special social groups, like OBC, women, tribals and Adivasis, with an attempt to expand the government’s base of support and to appeal to the communities.
Gaining expertise in specific areas such as technology, healthcare, agriculture, etc to develop policies, new schemes and programs in these areas. And, maintaining internal unity within the cabinet members to prevent the dissentient.
In addition, it will improve the administration boost the morale of the government with fresh ideas, and improve its ability to handle various challenges.
Repercussion on the Expansion:
As we know, Mohan Yadav extended his cabinet to 31 ministers, whereas the limitation to adding ministers to the cabinet is 35. Nevertheless, the number seems like too much, and it might lead to logistical challenges, financial burden, public dissatisfaction, and criticism from the opposition.
Overall, Mohan Yadav’s cabinet expansion will depend upon how effectively the ministers will work and manage to deliver promises, address the challenges and much more to prove to be a catalyst for progress.
